Urban Regional’s Principal is Seth Markowitz, MAI who has over 25 years of experience providing real estate appraisal, valuation and advisory services to financial institutions, pension and private equity funds, attorneys, accountants and the middle-market investment community.
Mr. Markowitz is currently involved in engagements that focus on commercial appraisals, minority interests, fund valuation, real estate valuation for financial reporting, market studies, underwriting, highest and best use studies and the valuation of interests backed by real estate. His expertise involves the valuation of all property types and interests. Of note, Mr. Markowitz’s engagements have included the quarterly valuation of a $2 Billion equity portfolio and advisory concerning an $800 million retail portfolio. For eight quarters, he chaired the valuation committee for the Lehman Brothers (LBREP) equity real estate portfolio, a $2 to $4 billion private equity real estate portfolio and reviewed significant debt and mezzanine positions through the Lehman bankruptcy. He also valued several loan and REO portfolios as well as the Archstone portfolio as part of the Lehman Bankruptcy. Most recently, he contributed to the re-underwriting of a $4 Billion private equity portfolio.
Prior to forming Urban Regional, Mr. Markowitz served with the Real Estate Advisory Practice of Alvarez and Marsal, with whom he continues to contract. Mr. Markowitz began his career in Washington, D.C. with Delta Associates and Arthur Andersen where he provided appraisals for litigation support, quarterly valuations for an institutionally owned portfolio, due diligence assignments, and valuation consulting to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Mr. Markowitz was also with CB Richard Ellis appraising commercial property for institutional lenders. He was further engaged by Santander Bank f/k/a Independence Community Bank to inspect, appraise and underwrite hundreds of commercial and multifamily residential properties in the New York City market. Mr. Markowitz also has 15 years of experience of the acquisition, disposition and management of over 70 multifamily and dozens of residential units for a private account.
Mr. Markowitz earned a bachelor’s degree from American University and a master’s degree from George Washington University. He is a designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI), a certified general appraiser, licensed real estate broker and is eligible as a court appointed receiver.
